Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

It has been a weekend of stinkiness.  This is why:

1.  One daughter with a case of the throw-ups and squirts.  'Nuff said.

2.  I went to see the orthopedic sports medicine doctor as to why my ankle was still hurting after I did everything he said.  His reply, "it still needs more time to heal".  Sweet (feel the sarcasm)!  So I just spent $45 buck-o-roos on the mini tri sprint and I may not even be able to run the 3 miles (it's only 3 miles for pete's sake).  So I have to stay off it for a total of 12 weeks (I started to run on it at 8 weeks per his instructions).  So hopefully the first or second  week of April I can slowly come back (again).

It is hard when your mind is ready, but your body isn't.

3.  I went and rode the tri bike course today and totally got my "arse" trashed.  WOW that was a HUMONGOUS hill (twice).  I couldn't make it all the way up (even with a good song on).  I was about 2/3 of the way up and my legs and lungs were on fire.  I am going to ride it again with my hubby on this week so he can give me a few pointers.

4.  I have had it up to HERE with my kids saying potty words.  I had 2 girls sent to bed early (with no bath - can do that in the morning).  Mom's not taking it any more.  Plus, while we went to look for new bikes, they were CRAZY (if you can imagine 3 - 5 year olds being out-of-control in a store full of bikes).  I have had it with all of them.  "FOR SALE - CHEAP!!!"

Stinkiness sums it up!

After a week like that, you can at least figure you've set a low-water mark. Things can only get better from here on out. Good luck with your injury. Maybe you could x-train on the elliptical, and then do the run anyway...

Thanks Kam! I was planning on running Grandma's marathon in June and it's obviously out. I feel like my marks just keep getting lower. But when I come back - WATCH OUT! Too much pent up running frustration :)

From Bec on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 23:29:06 from 76.23.55.210

Hang in there. You will be able to get the run back, I promise. When you start running you will appreciate what you have been missing even more.

When is the Tri? You might be able to pull that off you know. Keep biking those hills, sounds a little tough.

As for the kiddos...Stay strong you darling mom!

Thanks Bec! It's been a few fun filled days!

I felt better being out in the sunshine after the bike ride (even though I was slow). Some days we just gotta "get it out" on the road :)

The tri is April 17 - so there is still a small chance. We'll just wait and see!

Ah, Toby. Sorry for the stinkiness. Hold on a little longer. That's what they say.

Haha, sorry for the bad day, but thanks for the laugh! Gotta love "those days." You're a busy runner Mom of young children. Embrace it. I used to be bothered by potty talk, but then I decided to either join in on the fun or ignore it since it wasn't ceasing anyway, and I laugh a lot more and feel frustrated a lot less. Sorry that your stress fracture isn't healing as quickly as you'd hoped. The patience you'll gain through this will surely benefit you later. :)

I'm sorry you had a stinky week. Being a mom of little kids is tough! Hang in there. Things are bound to get better.

From RAD on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 16:45:25 from 67.172.229.125

Oh my - I don't have 3 - 5yr olds, only one and I can't even imagine! You are supermom!

I totally understand your frustration. This happened to me with my injury (8 weeks out, started back - had pain) the week before my 30th birthday. Yeah talk about stinkiness! TOO much emotion/depression for me to handle that week - it was bad!

However, I can say now that taking that extra 4-5 weeks to come back slowly has made a HUGE difference! I had to start with a 'back to walking' plan before I even got to run. So, if your PT will let you start a slow 'back to running' plan first, count your blessings!!

It is worth it, and it's hard to come back, but it's better than having a 'weak point' to re-injure when your feeling better and trying to build miles. Hang in there! You can do it!!

Maybe your triplets have a secret language and the potty talk is actually nice talk for them.
