Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

1050 M swim

P90X - ab ripper

I just got my bands and weights do to the chest and back tonight (I did my assisted pull ups and dips at the gym).

I struggled a lot last week mentally - I'm ready to rock, but there is no running rockin' to be had.  Hence the swim today - I had to do something before I went crazy. Plus, I had some smarty pants make a rude comment about my not running.  Lots of lessons to learn!

My sweet hubby keeps reminding that I need to be patient and take into consideration that I've only been in a boot for 2 weeks.  I sure am jealous of all you running out there :)

Happy Mother's Day!  I received the coolest necklace today.  It says "One More Mile".  I told my husband I didn't feel worthy to wear it since I'm not running and won't be running for awhile, but I guess the saying can be for life!

These are my awesome kids who got all gussied up for my annual Mother's Day photo.  Thanks kids!

After TOO MANY days of not exercising, I feel yucky!

18 weeks of a stress fracture.

 4 weeks in a boot.

Lots and lots of white, sticky athletic tape.

Going to see the doctor tomorrow to see if the 2 stress fractures are any closer to healing.

I'm going crazy......

Wow - what a great day!  I went to a new foot doctor who did an MRI.  The results came back that the fracture has healed and I can SLOWLY come back.  The tendon that supports my ankle is still very weak, so I have some physical therapy to help strengthen it.  He also gave me a small brace to wear while I work out.

While we were talking on the phone, I took off the boot and put it in the back of my closet - hopefully never to see it again!

I went for a great bike ride today - it was definitely slow, but I was so happy to be moving and huffing and puffing that I didn't care!

9.12 miles in 54:12 minutes

Then I went to the gym for a swim.

30 laps in 21:53

I feel like this mental load has been lifted.  I still have a few weeks till I can run on it, but I am excited to be moving and the end is in sight.

3.65 miles walking in 55 minutes (3.5 MPH at 2.5%hill) (I have to confess....I had a really good song on my Ipod, so I ran.....only 1 minute...but I did it and it felt great).

Then I came home and rode for 30 minutes - Hubby was leaving, so that was all the time I had.

No pain and I'm feeling good!

Walked 2.5 miles - 3.8mph at 2.5 incline

All abs class - it kicked my tail!  I don't think I am EVER going to get rid of the pouch in my tummy thanks to my triplet pregnancy.  It is going to take a really good plastic surgeon and a tummy tuck.

I went to see the physical therapist today and he gave me a few balancing exercises.  I didn't realize that I had lost a lot of my balance.  Ankle feels stronger already!

Yesterday was the last day of school!  To celebrate, we took the kids up to a hotel in Salt Lake (it had a pool and a soda fountain machine), we played lots of games, watched a movie, rode Trax, and toured Temple Square (again).  It was fun to have a change of scenery and have good quality time with the kids without the distractions of home.

When we got home, I went for a bike ride.  I am SO SO SO slow.  I was totally passed by other bikers today.  Urghhh....  I think most of the problem is the bike - I am riding my hubby's OLD OLD mountain bike.  It is so heavy.  I've been saving my pennies and hope by the end of the summer, I will be riding a feather-weight.

Regardless, it felt great to get out and ride.  My ankle feels SO much better and stronger.  I am hoping by next week, I can start to run alittle.

For all you bike owners - what kind of road bike do you have?  Any suggestions?

We took the kids this morning to the gym daycare.

Walking on the treadmill:

3.61 miles - 55 minutes - 4.1 mph - 6.5 incline

Every 15 minutes, I would run for 1 minute.  I noticed my hiney was really jiggling - I know - TOO MUCH INFORMATION.  But it bothered me (in addition to the wiggly tummy pooch).  No more pan full of rice krispy treats.

When we got home, I took a ride on the bike.  I went scouting to find new trails to ride with my son.  He recently got a new bike and we have been going on a lot of little rides.  He's fast and I have been working with him on "up and down" on the BIG HILLS.  It is so fun to be able to do stuff like this with him.  I never thought I would get to this point in life and now I can't believe it is here!

10.62 miles - 58:39 minutes

Great day!
