Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

48:07...slow....but at least I am running.

I've been having some lower back/glute/hip/piraformis issues.  So lots of stretching/icing and research on how to strengthen.

So glad to be running....so so so happy!

Hubby's been out of town, so it makes me extra grateful when he is home (and it makes working out extra easy).

Hip/glute is still really tight.  I've been stretching and icing....I think it may be a matter of maintaining.

5 miles on the stair climber.  It was SO SO SO hot in that darn gym today.  Such a sweaty mess!  I had a hard time today....  huffing and puffing....tired legs....someday "it" will come.

Lifted legs

lunges, wall sits, calf raises, squats on the wall with a ball

Beautiful day for a run!  It was slow and I stopped twice to stretch (my darn glutes are SO tight and seem to spasm constantly).  I felt ok...my left ankle tendon was tender and my right leg has a small spot with shin splints.  Lots of ice today and rolling on a baseball.

Going 8 tomorrow with my hubby.  I don't think we have run today (excluding races) since we had kids.  Hooray for an early morning babysitter.

We were suppose to do 8 miles today, but I took us on a little detour.  Oh well...it was a beautiful morning to be outside!

Ran with my hubby Tim!  This was his longest run EVER and he did a great job!  It was a rolling course (which included some BIG hiking spots....trail blazing).  We had three different water fountains (hooray for the water being turned on).  It was starting to get warm.

I was really proud of him....during the last 2 miles, I picked up the pace (more of my normal pace) and he quickly followed.  I think he is starting to understand the importance of having a running buddy....they can push you!

Ankle tendon and shin splint area sore.  Lots of ice and Advil.  I had a massage tonight.....I need one every week!

Hot, humid run at the gym with the kiddes in the day care.  I ate Cafe Rio for lunch and felt like I had a rock sitting in my stomach!  Legs felt good (the ankle tendon and shin splint still a bit achy).

Lots and lots of leg lifting tonight.

Planks and sit ups.

I wanted to run 5, but was out of time.  I feel ok about it....lifting needs to become a priority.

53:21 (AP 8:59) 9:34, 9:26, 9:13, 8:49, 8:44, 7:32 (definitely a progression run)

Dropped my little one off at preschool and ran from the school.  I love running up there...nice to have different scenery!  The weather was beautiful, but a bit windy.   I ended up taking off my long sleeve shirt and running in my shorts and tank.

It was a BIG up hill run for the first 3 miles.  My legs were a bit heavy after yesterdays weights and I was huffing and puffing.  I felt a lot better on the way down.  Wish I would have had some water.

Semi-injury spots felt good during the run.  I wore my new compression socks (such a fashion statement) and they seem to be helping.  I've been really diligent about icing and massage them (I even got out the ice cream scoop last night and did some Gratson scraping on it...ouch).  Some days they are sore and some days not.  But at least I am running.

Sit ups and push ups in the parking lot after.

7 miles before I hopped on a plane to Rome.  I felt ok, but both my lower legs were weird...shin splints maybe?

I ate the biggest meal (2 appetizers, a main course and 3 desserts) before this run.  Plus we were going through a storm and to boat was ROCKING!  It was really difficult finding balance on the TM.

3 miles around the Greek island...Crete.  We were in the port, so it wasn't very pretty, but at least it was outside.  We ran with half of our Ragnar team.

7 miles on the TM on the boat (day at sea).  It was SO FREAKIN' hot in that darn fitness room.  Every heard of a ceiling fan?  Still achy on the lower legs.....

We got home last night....ooooo....I'm tired!  I woke up at 5am this morning.  I wanted to sleep more, but I was awake!  So I went for a quick run before all the madness started of kids!  Lower legs still sore...I need to do something about them.

I'm still not adjusted from getting home from Europe.  I was up at 4:45am....wide awake.  So I headed out and hoped to get a nap in before everyone woke up.

I ran the neighborhood street with lots of street lights...but it is hilly.  I didn't look at the Garmin and just ran.  My lower legs started to hurt immediately, but the pain subsided after a few miles.  As soon as I stopped running, the pain stopped.

So I went to the doctor today and he said it was shin splints.  I guess I am just ULTRA paranoid!  I told me to try taking out my orthotics...they maybe causing the pain.  We will give it a try.

I had to do my run mid-day because hubby was hiking with the scouts.  So it was WARM!  I've had a love/hate relationship with running.  I will have a great run, then my shin will ache and ache.  I will rest a few days because of stress fracture paranoia and come back.  Frustrating.

I'm committed to running the UV half and the Ragnar and then I will take it race by race.

This was a fairly good run.  I struggled between 3-4 miles....it was hot, I was thristy and wish I had a running bud.  I can tell my aerobic fitness isn't where it should be, but when I don't/can't run every day it won't be.

I'm learning......

I wasn't that motivated to run in the rain this morning, so I headed to the gym.  Hot, stuffy and humid.  But I did it and it is over.

Lower legs did better today, but I'm not celebrating yet.  Lots of ice and stretching.

I really wanted to run today, but didn't want to push the miles or pace.  Just loosen things up a bit.  It was a beautiful morning...nice sunrise.

Lower leg feels ok..I iced after the run.  We'll see.
