Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Nice and easy this morning.  The weather was ideal....a bit on the chilly side.  I'm not as motivated to do "extras" when I run in the morning, but I did do a few houses of lunges.  I must think that is is taking away from my morning nap or something.  I need to be more motivated in the AM as I am in the PM!

NOW....I'm wondering how many miles I can run this week safely????  I was thinking about 3, 5, 7, 5, 10=30.  Is that too much too soon?

your mileage build up plan looks fine to me, although i would still take it one day at a time. if 7 is on the schedule and you aren't feeling it, don't try to force it just to hit the 30 (it's an easy trap to fall into!). but if you are feeling fine with no complaints from the foot, go for it!

just as an example of what worked for me coming back from a SF last summer: 9, 14, 31, 40, 40, 44, 46, 60, 61, 65. i basically made two giant jumps, but then made sure to take a few weeks at the new level before making another one. i think the jump to 30 is fine, but i would stick around that range for a few weeks...

Ahh...I stopped checking blogs for a bit and I missed your injury! I'm so sorry. Way to keep things going with the stairs and stuff.

I don't know about what's too much too soon, but I hope that you can run what you want. I agree about backing off the plan if things hurt.

Allie...THANK YOU so much for the advice! I really appreciate it! I'm going to figure things out day by day....just not worth it to jump when I'm not ready. Thanks again.

Catherine...I've only been logging my stuff. I haven't been on any one elses blog in awhile. I just needed a little break :) Hope you are doing great and logging a few miles!

I've been wondering about you, but my poor blogging habits have kept me away. I'm glad to see you got out today and have a perfect recovery plan. Allie is right on the money and I second her opinion. Don't push it if you're not feeling it! Plenty of time to SGM!
