Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

23:28 - 5.68miles ride (just to shake up the legs a bit)

3.85 miles walking (I did 1 minute of running for every 9 minutes of walking)

Ankle feels super good and my legs aren't sore at all from Saturday's ride.

My baby turned 3 today.  I'm having a hard time opening Iphoto, so I will post pictures tomorrow.  Makes me feel old :)

4:55am.....so tired....so tired, but I got to see a really cool lightening storm on the way to the gym

3.45 miles walking (9 minutes of walking to 1 minute of running)

45 minutes

Ankle feels great! I wore my brace alittle last night and it seemed to help.  So while I am home it is going to be on.

I am going to do a hard ride tomorrow and no running, then start 3 days of 8 minutes of walking to 2 minute of running on Friday.

WALK/RUN - 3.35 Miles - 39:33 minutes (walk 8 minutes, run 2 minutes)

BIKE - 11.74miles - 50:30 minutes (PG High School hill)

I can't tell you how glorious it was to run 8 minutes today.  Unbelievable!  My ankle has been feeling really good.  I've been doing a lot of extra exercises, icing and wearing my brace around the house. Crossing my fingers

So my sweet SIL and her family has moved back to UT to attend MBA school.  She is a hard core runner too.  We even met and raced against each other at a high school national meet (though we didn't know each other).  We took the kids bowling yesterday and were talking about "puke zone".  No one, except runners or hard core athletes, understand what that phrase really means.

I love her and it is been really difficult not to be able to run with her.  It has always been our dream to live by each other and train together and I can't.  It has been eating me alive.  I have really had to put "life" into perspective lately.

Onto happier notes:  My Peachy turned 3 this week.  Man we love this girl!

Ankle felt a bit achy today and I about flipped out.  IT IS ABOUT TIME TO GET BETTER!!!  So I took it easy and short because I had a lot going on.

30 minutes on elliptical

20 minute walk (8 minutes walking to 2 minutes running)

Today, it does feel a lot better.  Lots of icing, exercises and wearing the brace.  I think I will run/walk tomorrow.

BIKE - 22.12 miles 1:59:18

I rode to the SUMMIT of Alpine Loop tonight.  The weather was fantastic - overcast, breezy and coming down the canyon it was darn-right COLD.

The last 2-3 miles were not hard cycling, but hard mentally.  I was getting tired and the time/miles just seem to drag on.  Plus I was trying to work out a few things in my mind from the day.

I passed a lady coming up the mountain - that is always good for the ego!

RUN/WALK - 4 miles, 50 minutes (walk 7 minutes - run 3 minutes)

My ankle was a bit achy today, but felt great while I was walking/running. I'm not sure if the muscle is still weak (even after the bagillion exercises I've been doing) or if it is the stress fracture. 4 miles is the furthest I've gone in a long time. I'm not even sore from yesterday's ride. Hooray!

I went at 4:55am this morning and never got a nap.  I took my kids to the roller skating rink today and spent all evening at soccer games.  I can hardly keep my eyes open, I'm so tired.

RUN/WALK - 4.25 miles (5 mins walk to 5 mins run - except for the last 2 segments, I ran for 5:30 and 6).

I can't tell you how WONDERFUL it felt to run today.  Really run - I ran almost 2 miles.  My ankle felt so great that I really did have to restrain myself not to go further or faster.  It's coming folks, its coming!

BIKE - 15.69 miles 1:02:57 minutes - I felt good on the bike too, but it was hot.  I hope to get a longer, harder ride in this week.  I still feel like I am so slow on a bike!

I think I will be able to do the mini sprint triathlon in November.  I'd better be able to run the 5k gosh darn it!

RUN/WALK - 2.47 Miles - 30:30 minutes(6 minute walk - 4 minute run)

BIKE - 17.26 Miles 1:31 hours

I rode part of the Alpine Loop today and it kicked my tail.  I didn't decide before-hand what I wanted out of this workout and I let the "hard" win me over.  I didn't make it to the top and turned around at the Timpanooke turnoff.  My legs were spent - I didn't do a lot of biking this week (we had a lot going on) and I could tell.

There were SO many riders going up the canyon this morning.  Hard-core riders too!  They all passed me going up and coming down - that is hard on the ego :)

My ankle has been bothering me a bit and I've been a bit grumpy about it.  I got my stress fracture back in December and it is the end of August....urghhhhh!  But I thought I would try to run on it today and back off a minute of running.  It feels ok, still a bit achy.

My next workout needs to be better!

ELLIPTICAL:  20 minutes

BIKE: 10.53 Miles - 45:15 minutes I rode the PG High School hill tonight.  That hill is always really hard.  But the weather was beautiful and I survived it.

When I got home, my sweet hubby asked how the ride went.  I said my usual response, "I'm so slow".  He laughed and said it's hard when you think you are Lance Armstrong and winning the tour but have  only been riding for a few months.   I still want to win though :)

So every year our church has a rodeo.  Yep, mutton bustin', chicken chasin', chasing the cash cow, greased pig, 5k race, parade, hoe-down and all other sorts of stuff.  It is a lot of fun, but I am DOG tired after being outside all day.  But this is the first year I missed the race.  Hubby represented though and did a great job!

I've really upped my ankle exercises and so far today, my ankle has felt good.  But I'm not holding my breath :)

BIKE in pm:  15.44 miles  - 1:05.55 minutes (did Healy hill twice, Wal-mart hill and TM hill).  I always feel like I peddle in slow-motion and just don't go very far or fast.  But it was a fun ride - this is one of my favorite routes and the weather was cooler.  Fall is coming.

5 min walk - 5min run

As I walked up to my front door after my workout, I looked at my watch and it said 4:39am.  I had a puking kid all night.  Why do stomachs need to rid their contents in the middle of the night?  So by 3:45 am, I couldn't sleep anymore so I hit the dark and loney road (the gym doesn't open till 4:30am).

I was a little nervous since it was so dark.  I was VERY aware of my surroundings and noises.  But it was cool and quiet.  I did a bunch of ankle exercises on my front porch, took a shower and crawled back into bed.  Hubby had brought Pukey into our bed (I have a firm NO KIDS IN BED rule).  She was still though.  I slept some but am still really tired.

Hoping to get a ride in when hubby gets home from work.  NO MORE PUKING KIDS! (on a side note, ankle does feel good today...still too early to get excited).

PM - bike ride.  I had HUGE intentions on going for a long ride tonight - I even had some extra time.  But 19:29 minutes into my ride, I got a flat.  I took off my tool kit when I had my bike tuned up last week and never put it back on.  So my sweet hubby and all the kids came to pick me up.  So much for a long ride......
