Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

After riding the mini sprint course last weekend, hills (big ones) have been on my mind.  I found a route with lots of them to help me get stronger (it can't hurt to do them even if I don't do the tri).

I always feel better after I exercise.  I haven't been as motivated the past little while, so it was nice to clear my mind.

I'd rather run up a hill than bike up a hill. I struggle with getting the weight of the bike, as well as my own weight, up a hill on a bike. Perhaps I should follow your example and do more biking one of these days.

I'm glad to hear that you're getting your mojo back.

Mind clearing as in epiphany potential or as in brain numbing?

Nice job on out pedaling those demons :) - That's why I must run and exercise too!

Yeah for BIG hills, gotta love 'em!!! Nice pace on them, too!

Sorry to hear your kids are sick, hope it is a SHORT illness and that the rest do not catch it (is that even possible)?

Next week when you are going crazy with all of your kids home, I will be taking it easy! My head is spinning from our movie and ice cream this afternoon, it is so hard to keep track of them all!!!

You're so strong! WAY to pedal up them BIG hills!

Did I hear you have sick kids at home? Bummer! Hope they feel better soon. It's tough on mommy!

How did you all figure out she was on a bike????

From Toby on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 19:01:36 from 216.194.124.36

Last Saturday, I posted that I rode the bike portion of the mini sprint tri course. It kicked my trash! I'm on a mission to conquer hills :)

We had another throw up incident this morning at 1:21am. Nothing like doing laundry and showers in the middle of the night!

From RAD on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 19:40:48 from 67.172.229.125

Kelli, for me I guess it was the 'riding' and not 'running' :) and remembering last Saturday's biking adventure helped too :)

Okay, so i am slow! i got that she rode last week, but I thought she ran today. i am dumb.

Sorry about the barf! i had one night 4 years ago where my three boys were sick and they took turns vomiting. I finally covered their floors with towels becasue they kept missing. I would take them outside and shake the vomit off in the dirt on the house they were building right behind me (gross, I know). I did 14 loads of laundry, and i just laid on the couch all night waiting for the next episode, which was about every 15 minutes for hours. AND my husband was out of town. It is the night I will NEVER forget!!!!!

Hope everyone is better today.
