Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Aqua "recovery" run (46 minutes or 4.6 running miles)

5 min warm up and cool down

1 min - 2 min - 3 min - 4 min - 5 min - 4 min - 3 min - 2 min - 1 min - 1 min - 2 min (30 sec recovery)

I met calliej at the pool this morning (I'm a lucky duck because she is my cousin).  I can always count on her for a good time.  She even braved wearing a hat with an Ipod - she totally looked cool.  It was awesome to have a workout buddy.  I miss that - not many people want to pool run :)

So in my "deep cleaning" mode, I found my old track and cross country stuff (I think I already mentioned that).

During the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta (I was living in ATL and was entering my senior year in high school), I was an "apparel carrier" for the USA track trials and the Olympic track events.  So I carried all the stinky and smelly warm up clothes in a "shopping basket" from the starting line to the finish line.  It was AMAZING as you can imagine (I could probably write a book on all the neat stuff I saw, but not today!).

So one day, an official asked if anyone liked BYU.  I quickly raised my hand.  He threw me Frank Fredricks BYU jersey; it was still stinky.

I found the old BYU jersey, my shopping basket and a few other Olympic memorabilia. I will make one more post later about my thoughts on the Olympic games (past and present).

Wow! What an exciting job, and so cool that you saved and found some memorabilia from that time.

I know what you mean about finding buddies to run in the pool; I have only one! Funny, but if I want to run on a trail, about 100 people volunteer to go along. I like that workout that you did today; I do that a lot and it always goes quickly.

I had a blast pool running with you. I had to take a little nap when the boys went down. That early morning stuff kicks my butt!!! It was a good workout. I notice less pain on my shin today! I really hope I am making progress. Can't wait for tomorrow! You rock!!

That is COOL (although NOT a fan of BYU). I wish I had some fun memories like that!

I did not know Callie was your cousin! Very cool. I like her, she knows how to stick up for herself!!!! Now, when you are all well, we just need to plan a run in Utah county so we can all meet!

Nice workout day, BTW! And do not forget to check my blog on Monday to see how many pounds I gain this weekend. It will be SCARY, but worth it!

After the pool, I go back to bed until the kids come and wake me up!

So tomorrow, lets do 45 min on the bike. The pool run is:

5 min warm up

8x5 min hard (1 min easy between each one)

10x45 sec hard (15 sec easy between each one)

5 min cool down

Should we do 6:30ish with the bike first?

SO FUN to have your cousin pool ran with you today! You girls are AWESOME...getting up early and all.

What a fun job working for the Olympics even though it was "stinky". :) I am a Cougar fan...SO COOL you kept those memorabilia. Can't wait to hear more about your finds from "deep cleaning". Hmm, I'm afraid if I do that it would take up a whole day for just one closet!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Feb 26, 2010 at 21:04:09 from 24.8.167.243

That's great that you two were able to pool run together.

Very cool olympic memories.
