Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I REALLY need to figure out HOW to recover from a marathon!  After SGM, I had to take some time off.  And now after Ogden.....  I'm a wreck.

I thought I had a game plan as to how to "come back" after my pulled arch muscle.  But it was WAY too much too soon.  Last Monday, I really started to feel that infamous ache.  The one that is there when you wake up and all day long.  It was right on the top of my ankle.  I thought it was just sore tendons (maybe it is), but I'm too chicken to test it out.  I haven't gone to the doctor....I feel like I'm a hypochondriac sometimes and I'm the patient they always talk about after you leave.

Hence, I've been laying low.  And honestly, the timing couldn't have been better.  I've been swirling out of control.  I had 2 days of cub scout camp last week, a quick trip to Atlanta, 2 very large gardens to keep up, finishing our basement, my triplets turn 8 so we have 2 parties and a baptism, we are heading out of town next week too, and everyone is out of school.

I haven't written off SGM, but I'm not planning on any PR's.  I think my next big race RACE will be Grandma's Marathon in June 2013.  I would really like to make a PR there (though it is a really hilly course).

I may try to run this weekend, but I really want to play it safe.  No craziness from this gal.  Marathons work me over.

Any and all advice is welcome!

Yes, I think laying low is a good idea. Marathons can take MONTHS to recover from. You have been busy with other things right now that need your attention. That dang foot! You for should get it checked out.

Cross train and then get ready for SGM. You will be more likely to get a better time at SGM than Grandma's. You have PLENTY of time to get ready for SGM. Just sayin' take advantage of SG while you can.

It is puzzling to me how you still have these nagging pain. I know you were so diligent with all the little things (foam roll, stretch, ice, PT stuff, etc.) May be it is REST that you need. With a busy busy family and all the "twirling" around you have going, you rarely have the time to rest.

I agree that it takes months to fully recover from a marathon. Running a marathon is challenging and a huge accomplishment. I ran my first two marathons (both St George) a year apart. It takes time for the body to adjust to the vigorous demand of marathon training and racing.

You PR'd HUGE at Ogden, just 7 months after SG. Obviously you did something right. I am very proud of your hard work and accomplishment. I'd say keep listening to your body...you know your own body best! :)

Bec and Smooth....thank you ladies for checking in. I'm not sure what my deal-e-o is, but obviously, I'm not doing something right. Live and learn.

Eat more/sleep more? I'm sorry that things are off for you right now.

Congratulations on 8 years with the triplets!
