Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I dutifully hit snooze this morning and didn't regret one minute of the extra 2.5 hours of sleep!  I worked out after hubby got home from work.

Elliptical - 1.5 miles (I went 5 minutes longer than last time and NO ankle issues - YAY!!)

Bike (20 minutes) - 2 miles

Aqua run - 4.8 miles (48 minutes)

5 min warm up

2 sets of 2:30sec (30 sec recovery) (2 min recovery between sets)

5 min cool down

I'd better get a move on my favorite part of the Olympics since they are over (though I didn't watch much, I more referring to the general theme of the Olympics):

1.  I love to watch the athletes raise their arms when they cross the finish line (and to see the expression on their face). To me, this is the compilation of of years of training (physical and mental) and overcoming beasts (because they all have them).  The "crossing the finish line" is the moment that they have been envisioning during all the training session.  It is glory!

2.  Singing the national anthem.  This is the second "glory".  To know you are the very best athlete in your country, much less the Olympic games, is a dream many dream of but few accomplish.  I love to see them sing it and see the tears roll down their face (I'm sure many tears were spent getting to that podium).

3.  Watching the "this is where they have come from" video clips.  I love the music they always play.  I love seeing them struggle and overcome.  I hope someday to have my own video clip.

 Done.

Glad you hit the snooze button and look at what a GREAT workout you had this evening!

I agree with your sentiments on the Olympics. So so so SO inspiring!

I hope you have your own video clip too. You're a champion in the making!

Sounds like your ankle is improving! And, yes, we should all have our own video clips. I really need to practice that finish line look though.

You are going to be so ready for a triathlon when you're able to run again.

I am horrible! I checked my list of scheduled event to record on the DVR this afternoon and shouted, "YEAH, the Olympics are finally over." So unpatriotic, but I have missed my TV---especially Biggest Loser. I was going through withdrawals!

Way to hit the snooze button. Every time I do it, I regret it. I get so mad at myself. SO, I am glad that you did not because 2.4 hours of sleep is so worth it!

From RAD on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 15:07:00 from 67.172.229.125

I have to side a bit with Kelli on this one. I do like the Olympics and enjoy watching them, but I wish I could have my cake (normal programming) and eat it too (Olympics).

Nice job on the sleep and workout. I'm glad you're able to progress your effort with no pain - good signs, good signs!!
