Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I love putting on a wet swim suit when I've just rolled out of a warm bed.

Aqua run 62 minutes (6.2 running miles)

5 min warm up

3 sets of 1:30minutes (30 sec rest) (2 min rest between each set)

5 min cool down

Hope to get a bike ride in when hubby gets home from work.  It is to beautiful outside!

Hey! I can do hard things, too!!! That is so funny - I love saying that. So you are water-running, too? We've probably talked about this already, but remind me what your injury is... :D

From Toby on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 16:21:01 from 216.194.124.36

I have a stress fracture in my ankle and heel. I am 8 weeks recovered tomorrow (I sound like I am at an AA meeting :) ). How did you come back to running after your injury?

From eightkidmom on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 16:53:26 from 4.254.235.107

Wow, that's a bummer. I made it ten weeks - almost! It was supposed to be twelve, but I have a Half-Marathon in 11 days, so I decided I'd better try out the ol' legs. So far, so good. Since mine was an old back injury that was affecting my nerves, I really won't know whether or not it has healed unless I have another crazy nerve spasm that lays me out for a week. I'm hoping for the best. :D

OH MY, I can actually think of few things worse than that! Throw the suit in the dryer or lay it on top of the heater or something!!!!

Yuk! That will teach you to leave the wet swim suit wadded up in your gym bag. I know, I've done it too. I keep meaning to tell you, when my heel was fractured, I discovered road biking! That is when I got my beautiful blue bike, and I still love it.

Whew! The thought of that just took my breath away. Chills and cold water is what I hate about swimming.

You're being sarcastic about the wet swim suit, right?

From Toby on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 21:06:49 from 216.194.124.36

I went pool running last night and pool ran again this morning. I did hang it on the door knob, but it just didn't get dry in time. It was SO brrrrrr cold.
