Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I thought I would try spin class today.  I didn't get up out of the saddle - the past few times I did that it seemed to irritate my ankle.  So far today, it feels good.

I had a hard time being motivated during class.  It is Monday and I am tired.   I was going to babysit 10 million kids, and it is a early out day at school.  Just having a hard time getting excited!

But now all the kids are gone, workout is done, and it is beautiful outside and we are going to play after school!

Glad the ankle did well on the ride! Where do you do the spin classes? I almost got up for the one in Lehi this morning, but alas my laziness took over :)

It is a beautiful day and getting out and playing with the kids is a good workout for body and soul! :) LOVE the weather today!

RAD - I usually go to the AF Gold's or the AF Rec Center. It seems that the same instructors teach at both! I need to come and work out with you and Bec. You guys will kick my tail :)

10 million kids? And you survived? Congratulations.

Carolyn-I am still recovering. I had 8 kids all under the age of 6. It was craziness! It's been one of those days (a trampoline injury, bloody nose, "I'm not pretty enough", why did she get invited to a party and not me" kind of days! Tomorrow will be better!

My Mondays are always a challenge for me! I don't know what it is....Glad you could end your day well! You must have really beat up your ankle to not be able to get out of the saddle..what did you DO?

From Toby on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 15:45:15 from 216.194.124.36

Missy - I have a stress fracture in my left ankle (distal tibia) and in my heel. I've been swimming, pool running and biking for 8 weeks. So so so fun! I think I am going to do the Orem Rec mini sprint in April because of all my swimming and biking. I can SLOWLY start to run again next week (10 minutes every other day).
