Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Yesterday was the last day of school!  To celebrate, we took the kids up to a hotel in Salt Lake (it had a pool and a soda fountain machine), we played lots of games, watched a movie, rode Trax, and toured Temple Square (again).  It was fun to have a change of scenery and have good quality time with the kids without the distractions of home.

When we got home, I went for a bike ride.  I am SO SO SO slow.  I was totally passed by other bikers today.  Urghhh....  I think most of the problem is the bike - I am riding my hubby's OLD OLD mountain bike.  It is so heavy.  I've been saving my pennies and hope by the end of the summer, I will be riding a feather-weight.

Regardless, it felt great to get out and ride.  My ankle feels SO much better and stronger.  I am hoping by next week, I can start to run alittle.

For all you bike owners - what kind of road bike do you have?  Any suggestions?

Things are looking up! That's great!

Glad the ankle is feeling better! Your 'schools out' party sounds SO fun! I need to do something like that for my kiddos.

I hear you on the mtn bike thing, it's all I've got. AND mine has a baby seat that won't come off (until ALL children out grow it, because it won't go back on!). I also would like a road bike, but unfortunately can't seem to find many pennies to save. Try KSL.com classifieds, I know some people have gotten GREAT deals on bikes there.

It sounds like you had an amazing last day of school. What a fun mom you are!

As for road bikes. I would suggest buying used for a first time bike. I bought an all-carbon Trek for under 1000 on Ebay. You can also find great things on KSL as well. You will mostly be looking to find a nice frame that you can work with. Any questions feel free to ask me.

What a fun last day of school get-away day! SO HAPPY your ankle is feeling better and stronger.

Can't help you with bike advise. I don't even know how to ride one! Have a GREAT week!

Cannondale or Trek, with as much carbon fiber as you can afford. You will be spending some money, so make sure you are fit well. This is the most important thing on a road bike. Get fit by someone who really knows what they are doing!

For somewhat less money, Bianchi makes some good roadies.
