Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Easy run on the home TM. Same old Monday story...early, dark, tired, ho-hum kind of a run. Nothing hurt or felt creaky!

Quick foam roll and back to bed for a quick nap before my kids got up.

I absolutely HATE going to the gym. HATE it! There are too many people, it's dirty, and so hot! But I met Kellie this morning. The run was just alright. Hammies were a bit tight.

Robyn took my body fat this morning. I had a cheat meal on Saturday and I can still feel the effects from it. Robyn said it can take up to 5-6 days for your body to equal out from it. I felt a bit frustrated by it, but quickly remembered that I need to have balance. I don't want to go through life without a few foods that I really like. Body fat was 20% (last week it was 19%).

Lifting tonight

I had some anxiety about this run. My last long run (15 miles) was a great run and I wasn't sure if I could do it again. And I was alone and the weather was iffy.

BUT...it all worked out. I just ran. I looked at my Garmin occasionally and it all fell into place. Again, I broke the run into sections...the mile 5 and mile 11 bathroom and GU breaks. If I mentally just work on getting to those points, I could manage.

I started to struggle with 4 miles to go. The wind picked up and it started to rain. I could feel the effects of those faster middle miles...PAIN CAVE. I mentally just focused on getting to the lamp post, then a sign until the end of the trail (and RAD yelling in my head....love you RAD). Then I knew I only had 1.6 miles to home.

My AP was 20 secs faster per mile than last week. Yikes...I'm not sure if that is good or bad???

Hammies are tight and feet are a bit sore. It's over! And in a few hours, I get to get up and do it again :)

Ohhhh...I can feel the effects from yesterday.  My hammies are very sore.  So slow was the name of the game this morning.  Everything felt a bit better after I was done, but I think it might take a few more days to recover!
