Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

AM

3 very slow miles on the home TM.  I'm trying to be smart and take it easy today.  My hip has been very tight all weekend.  It didn't help that I forgot to stretch after Saturday's run.  So I spent a LONG time stretching, foam rolling and LLL.

PM

If I wouldn't have been lazy this morning and gotten up 30 minutes earlier, I wouldn't have to do my strength training tonight.  But I was....

3x

12 overhead press

20 skull crushers

12 butterflies

LLL

10/side  side to side lunges

10/side single leg hamstring lift

60 sec plank

B6

More stretching and foam rolling.

I was WIDE awake at 3:00am this morning.  I'm not sure what my deal-o was, but I laid there till 4:45am and then headed to the gym.

7 miles

During the last .25 of every mile, I would pick up the pace a lot.  It definitely made the miles go my faster.  I felt good aerobically, but my lower shin was bugging a bit.  And I was very sore from all the lifting yesterday.  I love that feeling.

Quick stretch - couldn't find a foam roller.  Back to bed for a quick nap before all the kids got up.  I love my morning power naps.

I was suppose to do this run on Thursday, but I didn't have to have a back to back run which included a long run.  So I thought Wednesday night might be a good medium and take Thursday off.  I'm not sure if this thinking makes any sense, but we'll see how it rolls.

PM:

3 easy miles that were constantly interrupted by texts and children needs.  Oh well it was suppose to be easy :)

3x

15x push up

Lunges - down and around my back yard

30 sit ups

Planks on ball

Stretch and foam roll.  Ankle feels good.  I'm still very sore from Monday's ST.  It had better rain because I just put a bunch of fertilizer on my grass!!!

3:50am my alarm went off

Shorts and tank:  8 miles on home TM (GU at mile 6)

Running tights and 3 shirts:  7.5 miles with Smooth, Karen and Collette.  I was SO VERY grateful to be out running with these ladies.  I made them get out of bed and run in the dark with me.  We ran on a new trail and it was pitch black.  Kinda creepy.  I love our running chats.  I had to be home by 7:00am so hubby could leave, so I said goodbye to the ladies.  They are so amazing and I couldn't have done this run without them. (GU at mile 12)

Clean shorts and t-shirts:  1.5 miles on the home TM

Quick stretch and foam roll. Done by 7:30am.  Off to do lots of laundry (5 shirts, 1 pair of tights and 2 shorts).
