Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I was way too lazy to get my hiney out of bed this morning!  I haven't missed an early morning in almost a month.  I can't miss again - it is just too easy!  Luckily, I only had 3 miles on the schedule (too lazy to lift).  I ran a lot faster than I normally do - not sure if it was because I had sleep and I wasn't in "coma" state?!

However, it was super hot and I'm not sure if I could have gone any further without water.  Legs feel really good today.  Gotta get my hiney out of bed tomorrow!

I dragged my butt out of bed this morning - no more afternoon...cooking in the heat for me!  I had a really hard time getting my legs moving.  But I wasn't too concerned - I ran harder yesterday and tomorrow is a semi-long run.  Lots of stars out this morning - it was beautiful.

Meet Sarah at the mouth of the canyon...and there was a strong headwind heading up the canyon.  I always struggle going up...not sure if it is physical or a mental thing.  But I felt really good coming down. It is sure nice to have someone to run with.

Soaked in the river after.  Every cross country team in Utah County was in the parking lot getting ready to run!  There were a ton of bikers too.

So many stars out again this cool cool cool morning - it felt heavenly!  Legs felt pretty good - alittle achiness in the lower legs.  Hubby was still in bed when I got home, so it was nice to get into bed and have it be warm.

Looking forward to my longest run EVER - 17 miles.

Oh what a run!  It started with my alarm going off at 4:25am.  I ate and got ready.  I got to the trail about 5:15am to run 5 miles before the group run of 12 miles.  It was SO SO SO dark and spooky on that trail.  I didn't turn my music on until on my way back.  I saw 3 beautiful deer.  They slowly crept onto the road.

I finished the run, got a big drink and sat in my car for a few minutes until the group showed up.  Oh...those few minutes in the car sure made me tired!  There was a large group of gals this morning...RAD, Smooth, Bec, Kathie, Wendy, Carolyn, Karen.  It is so wonderful to run with company!

One of the major "things" I learned this morning on the run was I need to run more in the heat.  Usually, I'm done running just as the sun is coming up.  I felt so over heated today.  St George Marathon starts at 6:00ish and the majority of the run is done in the sun.  I need to practice more.

I felt good this morning.  My lower legs were a bit sore. But my breathing felt controlled and I was able to pick it up a bit on the last few miles (and didn't feel like I was going to die!!). I was surprised to see that my AP was a 9:04 - that is way faster than normal.  I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

On the way home, I stopped at the gas station to buy a bag of ice.  I had a good ice bath and foam rolled.  I also got an hour nap!  My lower legs are definitely sore this afternoon.  More icing and Advil tonight.
