Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

2 x (2 min walk to 8 min run)

2 x (1 min walk to 9 min run)

1 x (2 min walk to 8 min run)

I picked up the pace today just a smidge and threw in another minute of running and so far today, my ankle feels great!  Hip hip hooray!  This is the farthest I've run since December 2009.

I'm starting to feel a sore throat coming on, achy ears and body aches - so I hope to get to bed at a normal time tonight (no late night sewing!!!).

WALK/RUN: 49 minutes - 4.36 miles

2 x (2 min walk to 8 min run)

2 x (1 min walk to 9 min run)

2 x (2 min walk to 8 min run) - I cut the last one a bit short, I was SO tired.  I really wanted to go home and go back to bed!

Ankle felt pretty good today - I could feel the effects of yesterday's a "smidge" harder and faster.  So I took it easy today.  No pain right now!

My mini sprint is in 3 weeks and I haven't swam once.  Urghhh..... my goal is just to finish.  That's it!

I've had a bad sinus infection and finally went to the doctor to get some drugs.  I still can't talk very well.  I had to stop a lot during the run and cough up loogies and snot rockets (still not very good at either of those).

The rain needs stop here in Moab so we can ride Slick Rock!  Hooray for a long weekend with friends and no kids (and no sewing)!

BIKE: 2.3 miles - 1:15 minutes - SLICK ROCK

WALK/RUN: 4.02 miles 40:26 minutes

The weather this morning in Moab was incredible - cool and slightly overcast.  I ran with Tim and our friend (his wife opted to stay back).  Considering that running is the ONLY thing that I am better at than Tim, I decided to pick up the pace and give them a run for their money.  It was fun to make them sweat a bit!

The rain finally cleared and we were able to ride the practice loop at Slick Rock (we had to out of the condo, so that was all we had time for).  It took me a few minutes to remember how to ride the rock, but once I got going it was amazing.  No crashes  - just a few scrapes.

Glad to be home and see the kids!
