Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

My workout totally got messed up this morning.

A.  I slept in....that is never good.  I always feel guilty leaving my kids.

B.  I had to drop off all the samples for the 400 skirts.  She called at 7:50am and needed me in Orem by 8:30am.  I was still in my jammies being lazy in bed.  But she was 20 minutes late. So I didn't get to the gym till after 9:00am.  WAY too many people for my liking!

I decided it is time to put on my big girl running shoes and do some speed work.  I asked RAD about all her speed work.  So I decided to do the 1 min hard/1 min easy.  I needed 4 miles today, so I did a 1 mile w/u and 1mile c/d and 2 miles of hard/easy.

I did my hards at 9.5mph and my easys at 6.3mph.  It was definitely hard.  I started when the timer on the the TM said 10 minutes and did the speed until I got a little over 3 miles.  My last hard I did at 9.8mph in honor of RAD since she can't run (I about barfed too :)   ).

Lots of stretching and foam rolling.

More sewing today.....

4 mile run on TM - 36:43

The run seemed to take forever even though it was only 4 miles.  My hip, ITB and outer

(and sometimes inner) are stilling bugging.  I may go try to see my chiro today and get an adjustment and some ART done.

My kids are going skiing for the first time today.  Man that is a lot of work to get everyone ready.  I'm meeting hubby and kids for lunch and to take pictures.  This is an expensive sport!

I woke up at 5:00am and started freaking out that I wasn't going to get all my 400 dresses sewed in time.  I couldn't fall back to sleep.  So at 6:00am, I got up and went to the gym.  I almost hit my neighbors Christmas tree because it was blowing all over the cul-de-sac.

I struggled the first few miles....had a hard time getting into a groove and realizing HOW many miles I had left.  Ughhhh....

I broke up the run into a 6 mile run - water/gu chomps - 5 mile run.

My hip started hurting around mile 8/9.  When I'm done sewing all this madness, I'm going to the chiropractor and maybe to get another cortisone shot.
