Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I was WIDE awake at 2:11am this morning and could not fall back to sleep.  I guess that is what happens when you sleep in on Sunday morning!!  Sometime in the wee hours of the morning I drifted back into Z-land and my alarm went blazing WAY to early!!

I only ran 4 miles this morning.  That's it.  No stretching, PT exercises or foam rolling.  I was only interested in taking a hot shower and crawling back into bed.

My ankle felt good.  But my knees were bothering me on Saturday and Sunday.  I think I did too many squats and squat jumps.  Gonna take a break from those for a few days.

After my morning nap, I sent my big kids off to school and took my preschooler to the Nutcracker with her school.  It has been since I was kids that  I've seen that ballet.  It was a very fun morning!

Crazy busy day!  Christmas sings, reader theaters, Nutcracker, Costco and dipped caramel apples.

Cross training day.

7 miles on the stair mill - 60:34.  I felt really great today (ankle felt great too!!!)

LLL, lots of stretching and foam rolling

On side note:  I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with Christmas.  WHY - I eat WAY TOO many treats.  I was getting candy ready for my kids' school pinata before school and ate 10 pieces (BEFORE I ate breakfast).  Chocolate covered cinnamon bears are my arch nemesis.  The peppermint junior mints.....mmmmmmm.  I no longer fit in the "skinny fat" category.  Just the "FAT" category.  The food madness needs to END!

I bought a resistance band with cuffs so I can put them around my ankles.  So I did the monster walk on the TM.  I could only go .6 mph but put the incline up to 15.  I did this for 15 minutes.  My thighs were burning.

3 miles on the TM.  Faster than normal.

Now to the bummer part of the workout.  I saw a bossu ball and went to pick it up to move it over to where I was doing my PT exercises and I dropped it on my left foot.  OUCH!!!!!!  Holy smoly that hurt (and still really hurts).

3x

10xsquats on bossu

10xplank with weighted row

LLL

When I got home, I took a shower and while I was washing my face my contact went to the back of my eye.  It took me an hour to try to get it out.

Honestly....I have no coordination!

I spent all day skiing at Brighton with my hubby and four kids.  It has been TEN years since I've hit the slopes (as in before I had children).  I was really nervous about remembering how to ski, but it is just like riding a bike.

I skied with my kids so that included green hills all day.  I realized (just like with running) it is harder to ski slow than to ski fast!  My hip flexors got a really good workout.  Lots of starting and stopping and snow-plowing!!!

Everyone is very tired!!
