Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

The icy snow has come and my days on the road will become limited.  So off to the gym this morning.

3 miles on the treadmill - 27.30.  I felt really good.

I ran on my dear friend "Tread Mill" today for 5 miles.  The best part about it was coming home and taking an hour long nap (my kids slept in until 8am).  Sweetness!

Went to the gym this morning and watch rerun after rerun of Tiger Woods bad choices.  Maybe I just need to pick a new treadmill in front of a different TV!

Ran on the treadmill at the gym. The best I've felt in 2 weeks - kept picking up speed the entire run.

I watched the most hilarious episode of "My Name is Earl" - I usually don't watch that show, but it had Napoleon Dynamite on it.  They were grocery baggers and went to a bagging competition.  Definitely made the time go by fast!

How do I kick my really gross habit of a Cherry Coke and Granny B's cookie everyday?   I love them so, but the calorie intake is ......out of control......

1 degree outside -- oooooo.....that is cold!

I want to start doing some speed work next week and I'm thinking I will be on the tread mill.  I've never done speed on the Milly, so with that being said, here's my dumb question:  do you hop off the TM after each 400/800/etc or do you just slow down the speed?

I'm braving the chilliness tomorrow and heading outside for a long run.  I hope I don't get hypothermia

Holy smokes - it was such a beautiful run this morning!  We had about 3-4 inches of fresh powder and the temperature was much warmer (20 degrees).  I don't understand why people want to drive SO close to the edge of the road.  I totally got splashed with yucky, dirty snow.  But it was well worth it once I hit the trail.

I definitely ran slow - I felt like I was dragging snow the whole way.  I am sore this evening - it was so much harder than a regular treadmill or no snow day.  I will sleep well tonight!
