Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Starting to have a sore throat, body aches and didn't sleep well last night.  I had a good run on the tread mill regardless.

This was my first speed workout since August AND my first speed workout on a treadmill.  I've always had a hard time with speed - mostly the mental toughness of hurting and "going to the next level".

It took me awhile to figure out what speed I needed to be at - next time I will start at 8.2 and work up.

1 mile warm up

5x400

1-2 min - speed level 7.6

2-1.38 - speed level 8

3-1.37 -speed level 8.2

4-1.37 - speed level 8.5

5-1.35 - speed level 9

I had a hard time getting moving, but finally got my 6 miles in on the tread mill.  One thing I hate about the treadmill (besides the fact I'm running in place) is that I sweat SO much.  I totally soaked through a towel today.  Urghhhh.... yuck!

I took a long nap this afternoon and finally feel human again.

I think I am taking tomorrow off - my hubby will be at the temple before work, I'm swaping babysitting with a neighbor, helping in my triplets class, and dance recital after school.  I'm ok with taking a day off, finally got some drugs for my sinus infection.  Plus, I'll be able to sleep in!

I wasn't able to run until right before dinner (I was a sleepy head the morning).  I got a new pair of shoes today and I felt like I was floating on air (now I need to figure out how to use the shoe tracker).

I had 2 bad parts to my run:

 1.  I ran through a HUGE puddle (it was dark and I couldn't see well) and got my brand new shoes wet.

2.  I leave my water bottle under a street light at the end of the cul-de-sac.  Some neighborhood punk swiped it.  It was my favorite water bottle!

My splits were:

1.1 mile - 10.34 minutes

.8 mile - 7 minutes

1.1 mile - 10 minutes

1 mile - 8 mimnutes

.9 mile - 7 minutes

.7 mile - 7 minutes

5.6 miles - 49.27 minutes

Running up the canyon tomorrow morning!

Met Sarah up the canyon this morning - 19 degrees and the wind was blowing! Brrrrr....  It was a slow start, but we were rolling after awhile.  It is so nice to have a running buddy (even if it is dark, cold, and your lips are frozen and you can't talk).

1st half - 24.36

2nd half - 21.21

Total 45.58

So yesterday when I went to get my new shoes, I recognized the employee from the running club this past summer.  He brought me my shoes to try on and I asked him about running.  He said, "oh yea, you're that older lady from the track".  Ack.....I really did feel old at that moment (even though I'm only 31).  Maybe I just need to get faster then I won't seem so old :)
